Glass_Door_Coffeehouse_JAN_2014In addition to the talented Jennifer Quist and Trevor Duplessis, this edition of the Glass Door Coffee House series sees the rescheduled Mill Woods launch of the 40 Below Anthology.

Several local writers were included in this fabulous anthology about winter in Edmonton, and will perform their pieces. They include: Dolly Dennis, Jannie Edwards, Danielle Metcalfe-Chenail, and Robin Young. Theresa Wynn will host the evening and copies of 40 Below will be available for purchase!

As always, we’ll have open mic sessions too, so please bring your words or music to share (3-5 minutes per person, please).

 

Admission is FREE but donations are greatly appreciated and all proceeds are split among the headliners.

Nov 28 – 40 Below Launch at Glass Door Coffee House!

This edition of the Glass Door Coffee House series sees the Mill Woods launch of the 40 Below Anthology.

Several local writers were included in this fabulous anthology about winter in Edmonton, and will perform their pieces. They include: Dolly Dennis, Jannie Edwards, Danielle Metcalfe-Chenail, and Robin Young. Special musical guest Enochian will also be on hand and anthology editor Jason Lee Norman will host the evening!

Copies of 40 Below will also be available for purchase and you can get contributors to sign them!

As always, we’ll have open mic sessions but since so many 40 Below contributors will be there, we’re doing a pre-event sign up. If you’re interested in reading, please email info@daniellemc.com or go to our Facebook event page.

Oct 24 – Working the Deadbeat (Special Edition of Glass Door Coffee House) @ 7 p.m.

For this very special edition of the Glass Door Coffee House series, MWAC is partnering with LitFest and the Creative Nonfiction Collective to bring you “Working the Deadbeat”.

This GDCH features the Globe and Mail’s obituary writer, Sandra Martin (and author of a new book called Working the Deadbeat); Myrl Coulter, author of The House with the Broken Two; Caitlin Crawshaw, local writer and artist; and singer-songwriter Rebecca Lappa!

As always, we will have open mic sessions – so bring your favourite dark and spooky poetry, short fiction, nonfiction or songs to perform.

Arts and Cycling Converge in Mill Woods!

This past weekend, the Edmonton Bikeology Festival kicked off in Mill Woods. MWAC was there to support community living.

And other members like poet Jannie Edwards, rapper and activist Rod Loyola and arts supporter/organizer Theresa Wynn staffed the MWAC tent, drew prize winners, and got into the spirit!

In honour of National Poetry Month, this event’s lineup includes Evelyn Lau (Vancouver poet laureate), Marty Gervais (Windsor poet laureate), Andy Northrop, and Naomi McIlwraith. It will be hosted by Edmonton poet Audrey Seehagen. They will be joined by no less than eight MWAC artists who will be showcasing their work.

Please note: this month’s coffee house has a cover charge of $5, which goes directly to the artists to help with their travel costs.

This month we are aiming to get youth  in our community involved through the arts by providing them with the stepping-stones that they may need to begin to establishing themselves as leading members in the community!

For the first time we will be presenting a youth art gallery in Mill Woods at the Koffee Café! Students and other leading members in the community will be presenting and selling art work for most of the month of April.

This is an open mike night so everyone is welcome to join!!!

We meet monthly to build on that dream. ~~
